Michael Carey

The 2012 festival official opening will be performed by playwright Michael Carey. Michael’s play “Thy Will be Done” is being performed on the opening night by Sliabh Aughty drama group.

The now retired Principal of Headford NS has been involved in all aspects of amateur drama in Headford over the past 35 years. After 15 very successful years on the amateur drama circuit with Headford Drama Group he led the group further afield in 1991 performing plays in Hungary, France and six very successful summer tours to the United States playing in New York, New Jersey, Atlantic City, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. A great buzz he admits but bloody awful hard work!

During this period he also turned his hand to writing. Craddock’s Well (1996) has proved very popular with amateur groups even in the USA. Thy Will be Done (1999) is his most successful play having won all the major awards at the Dundalk International Festival in 2001 and features regularly on the amateur drama festival circuit. He has also written a couple of other plays but admits that they need re-writing…..sometime!

We are delighted to have Michael to perform the official opening of our 42nd Festival.
